Characteristics of Students Spanish is different from other classes. For most students this is their first exposure to learning a foreign language or culture, unlike history, math or English which have been reinforced since elementary school. To help you out I have created a profile of student characteristics for each level of success. ü Turn in all work on time and completed ü Participate in all class activities, especially oral activities ü Take notes in class ü Study notes, vocabulary and practice pronunciations outside of class ü Do well on quizzes and tests ü Stay organized and keep their binders up to date ü Brings supplies to class every day ü Follow directions carefully on all assignments, projects, tests, etc. ü Make good use of class time to work, stay on task and ask questions ü Seek help immediately when needed. ü Put extra effort into projects and presentations ü Do extra credit assignments when offered ü Turn in all work on time and completed ü Participate in class activities, especially oral activities ü Take notes in class ü Study notes and vocabulary outside of class ü Do fairly well on quizzes and tests ü Stay organized and keep their binders up to date ü Brings supplies to class ü Follow directions on all assignments, projects, tests, etc. ü Make use of class time to work, stay on task and ask some questions ü Seek help when needed. ü Do most extra credit assignments when offered ü Turn in most work on time and completed, sometimes forget to do it ü Participate an average amount in class activities and oral activities ü Take some notes in class ü Look over notes and vocabulary, usually right before a quiz or test ü Do okay on quizzes and tests ü Stay some what organized and use their binders ü Forgets to bring supplies to class from time to time ü Follow most of directions on all assignments, projects, tests, etc. ü Usually use class time to work, but sometimes get off task or procrastinate ü Seek help sometimes, usually at the prompting of a parent or teacher ü Occasionally do extra credit assignments when offered ü Are happy with average work or “just getting by” ü Turn in some work on time and completed, sometimes don’t do it at all or leave it unfinished ü Rarely participate in class activities and oral activities, have to be prompted to do so ü Rarely take notes in class ü Sometimes look over notes and vocabulary, but only right before a quiz or test ü Do poorly on quizzes and tests ü Are some what disorganized and rarely, if ever, use their binders ü Forget to bring supplies to class ü Follow some of directions on assignments, projects, tests, etc. ü May use class time to work, but get off task or procrastinate ü Seek help rarely, or may even refuse to get help when prompted by others ü Will ask for extra credit assignments if they fear they are failing, usually do not complete the assignments when offered ü Try to depend on others, may try to offer excuses, generally only do enough to keep from failing
* It will be difficult for these students to move on to the next level of Spanish without consent ü Do not turn in work on time or completed, sometimes don’t do it at all or leave it unfinished ü Do not voluntarily participate in class activities and oral activities, have to be prompted to do so ü Do not take notes in class ü Never, or hardly ever, look over notes and vocabulary ü Fail quizzes and tests ü Are disorganized and rarely, if ever, use their binders ü Forget to bring supplies to class ü Follow some directions, if any, on assignments, projects, tests, etc. ü May try to avoid working in class, get off task often and procrastinate ü Will not seek help, or may even refuse to get help when prompted by others ü May ask for extra credit assignments close to report cards, but do not complete the assignments when offered ü Try to depend on others, may try to offer excuses, or may develop an “I don’t care attitude” * These students will not be able to move on to the next Level of Spanish |
